Papa Roach strings help feed those in need

American rockers Papa Roach have helped us out in the past – guitarist Jerry Horton sent some strings in 2016, a whole box in 2018 and in 2019 the band did a comfort doll photo with us as well as donating strings and a set of drumsticks from Tony Palermo. We heard they were coming to Canada so asked Jerry if he was into donating more strings – a resounding yes! AND bassist Tobin Esperance was down to donate used bass strings as well.

We took the photo from 2019 with us (enlarged 8 x 12) and the band graciously autographed it, gave us drum sticks, and guitar & bass strings, and singer Jacoby Shaddix was especially interested in knowing more about who we supported (World Vision, Salvation Army, Union Gospel Mission), asking some really great questions. (The show was incredible)

As Kelowna was only the second show on the Canadian leg of the tour, the guys didn’t have many used strings yet but they had their tech take the strings off the instruments AFTER sound check to give to us! We were able to make 35 bracelets from 24 strings, and set up the photo, drumsticks, and one bracelet from Jerry’s strings, into an auction package (and added a PRoach hat).

As always, I’m amazed and not surprised by the generosity of the fans, band and crew – and all told, we raised $1393.00! The band has been supporting mental health and suicide prevention on this Rise of the Roach tour (25th Anniversary of their album, Infest), donating $1 from every ticket sold in Canada to local Mental Health/Suicide Prevention agencies. Jacoby Shaddix has/does also support Loaves and Fishes Sacramento, who work with homeless most especially youth.

We decided to spread the goodness around;
from the strings we sent $708.00 to Vancouver’s Union Gospel Mission to provide 130 Christmas meals to those in need, mostly homeless seniors.
We also sent $550 to Sacramento Loaves and Fishes, dividing it equally between Food Security, and Mental Health programs and assistance mostly for homeless youth.
The auction funds, went to World Vision Canada via their online Gift Catalog.
Those funds were: $60 for Emergency Food
$40 School Meals for children in Developing Countries (mostly Africa)
$30 Books for children in Developing Countries

We wish to thank Jerry Horton and the guys from Papa Roach, their tour manager who was so accommodating and helpful, and their guitar/bass tech, as well as the fans who supported this so wholeheartedly.

AND!! We got an email a few days before the last show in Halifax asking for delivery address -today at the post office? Strings from 5 Canadian shows including the Kelowna show! We’ll be busy in the New Year!
