If you read our last blog, you’ll remember Jerry Horton, guitarist for Papa Roach, donated a pile of his guitar strings to us a few months back. We’re about half way through the box! And we have another incredible chunk of money ($1245,00!!) to send off to World Vision Canada via their online Gift Catalog.
We decided to go big this time, as well as do something more personal for individuals as last time we did as much as we could for the many. Food, water, education, self sufficiency – the basics of life.
The biggest ticket item was a Mobile Medical Clinic. It provides “health on wheels for remote, rural communities.” In remote places with no access to a hospital, this clinic may be the only source of healthcare. We also choose Stock a Medical Clinic so that existing clinics have adequate supplies.
We helped invest in Clean Water with a share in the cost of drilling and supplying a well for a community, as well as helping to Restore a Child Soldier (x2) and Protect a Child Labourer with an education and scholarships. We also helped a Family Start a Business with a loan, training and assistance to become self sufficient and do more than just ‘survive’.
Also on the list:
Piglett and chicks (food source and breeding to sell)
Emergency food supply for a family for a month
Mosquito nets to protect a family against illness
Wood conserving stove (so they dont have to walk for miles for fuel sources)
Beehive and all equipment (food source, sales, and lets face it – bees need help too!)
School meals for a class for a month
and of course – 3 Soccer Balls 🙂
As we said, HALF of the strings Jerry Horton donated are now gone.. we’re down to the skinny strings (earrings, more delicate bracelets) and would love to keep this going! We are so appreciative of Jerry for not only donating the guitar strings, but helping us reach thousands of Papa Roach fans by reposting some of our posts (Instagram and Twitter), as well as to all the PR fans that have so willingly supported too!
Love this stuff!
