Chris Kael from Five Finger Death Punch donated his bass strings to us a few weeks ago and we jumped in fast and furious to make bracelets and a few necklaces .. thanks to Chris re-tweeting our first tweet announcing the strings, we were inundated with people all wanting one! (fantastic!)
Couldn’t keep up at one point – the phone on my battery wore down trying to keep up with all the tweets haha.. the BEST kind of problem to have! Here is a small sampling of things we made with Chris’ 6 donated strings.
Lots of skulls 🙂 (Chris is the one glowering in the above photo.. his trademark look hah)
All told we were able to create 15 bracelets and a necklace from 6 strings! The fans were super supportive, and we raised a whopping $355.00 for World Vision. We asked fans on Twitter if we should do a little for many, or go ‘big’ and do something huge with the amount.. the overwhelming response was ‘go big or go home’ haha! SO..
We did the following:
Stocked a medical clinic
Immunized an entire community
Lunches for 50 school kids for an entire month
Support street children including a safe place to live, education etc
Bought baby chicks for a family to raise for meat and breeding
Soccer balls for kids to be kids!
Thanks so much to the fans who purchased the items, shared our posts and helped make this a huge success, and again to Chris’ assistant Brad for getting the strings to us, ands huge thanks to Chris Kael who’s motto is #PositivelyAffectingLives and who lives what he preaches!
Many thanks to Jack of The Trews for donating his used bass guitar strings, AND for posting our auction on the band’s FB page – made a huge difference in getting the auction ‘out there’.
WE have the tally of the auction, and after expenses you helped us raise $465 dollars for World Vision which we just spent through their online Gift Catalog! Here is a list of what we were able to accomplish.
School feeding for 50 kids for a month
supply 3 soccer balls for kids at school
Feeding a family in disaster zone for a month
Stock a classroom for the year
Stock a medical clinic
Educate a girl
Restore a child soldier
Amazing stuff all from 4 used bass strings 😉 Many thanks to The Trews Fans Network and Sharon and to all those who bid, shared and passed on the info to friends which helped make this auction so amazing.
Christy Zacharias and her friend Angela need dolls for RWANDA like… now! 😉 Due date to have them mailed out AND ARRIVED is Nov 20th! gives you about 15 days to knit and some 7 days for postal delivery! CAN ANYONE HELP? even if you can bang out FIVE DOLLS that would be a HUGE help! Let us know in the comments if you can do 5 dolls. AND hit us up for the mailing address!
** Thanks to our lady knitters we were able to supply enough dolls for this trip!
Our last auction of 2010 was really cool! The auction featured the lovely Bif Naked with a comfort doll that we gave a really wild spikey hairdo when we knitted it.. sort of to match Bif’s own wild spikey hair that she sported after it grew out from her chemo sessions. Knowing that Bif has a weakness for bubble gum (as per her twitter tweets) we chose bubble gum pink for the doll’s shirt and sent it off… within short order, we were sent two lovely photos of Bif by her mgmt people.
A few weeks later, we heard that Bif was coming near our town for a show, bought tickets (our first time seeing the lovely Ms Naked live) and contacted her mgmt to ask about having the photos autographed at the show. They said yes, and so it was arranged (she did a meet and greet of sorts with most of the audience after the show). While at the show, we scooped a poster (with permission from the venue staff) and took it home until auction time. One auction package included an autographed photo of Bif with the poster, the other package was the second autographed photo along with a copy of Bif’s new cd, The Promise.
We decided to combine a few items in this last auction – items that have been kicking around for awhile… waiting for the right time to auction them off… included with Bif’s items were pictures and swag from The Trews as well as The Mudmen.
To date, thanks to the undying support of our friends, fans, followers and the generous artists, bands & mgmt we have worked with, Comfort Doll Project has raised a staggering $10, 543.00 for charities including World Vision, Union Gospel Mission, Salvation Army and local Food Banks. We are nothing without you!
