So as you may remember from our last few blogs, we’ve been working on bracelets made from used guitar strings donated by guitar Jerry Horton from super group Papa Roach. Jerry was kind enough to send his strings after we chatted with him on Twitter, and we’ve finally been able to use them all! We’ve sent bracelets as far away as Russia and Poland!
We did four ‘lots’ of strings and raised a whopping $415 dollars! Even more whopping is the list of things we’ve been able to ‘purchase’ from World Vision’s gift catalog! They are:
- supply a classroom (twice)
- 3 soccer balls
- school lunches for 50 kids for a month
- Medicines for 20 kids
- text books for a classroom (twice)
- Syrian emergency relief ($20)
- Baby chicks (twice)
- 5 fruit trees
Many thanks to Jerry and the awesome Papa Roach fans who supported us!
Chad Brownlee, one of Canada’s hottest country artists right now, donated a set of his strings!
We’ve known Chad for a few years through Twitter, have met him signing autographs at a few shows last year and he’s a super nice guy, so didn’t hesitate at all when asked to donate for our cause!
A set of lovely rose gold (well used) strings arrived a few weeks ago, and the package was autographed! Love it!
We decided to create a bracelet immediately, inspired by ‘country’ and donated it to the BCCMA silent auction as part of their annual fund raiser. The other 5 strings will develop as our imagination takes flight Stay tuned!
Sam Roberts Band auction results are in! Many thanks to everyone who bid, shared, and supported our latest guitar string auction.. we did good
We auctioned off a pile of strings from Sam Roberts himself and the results are in. We raised a whopping $380.00 and were able to purchase the following items on World Vision’s online gift catalog.
We were able to:
- educate a girl in need
- supply a classroom
- 3 soccer balls for school kids
- school feeding for 50 kids for a month
- feed a family for 30 days
- meds for 10 kids
- life saving nutrition for a child for 2 months
We saw Sam in person, August 10, and gave him a World Vision thank you card with everything listed, and he loved it, especially the 3 soccer balls, and the educating a girl in need. We had one tiny scrap of his guitar strings left, and made it into a bracelet with purple glass leaf charms which we gave to him for his lovely wife.. he loved that his strings could be turned into such good things.
Thanks so much to everyone involved and many thanks to Sam, his tour manager for saving the strings, and his manager for posting our auction on the band’s Facebook and twitter. We all did good.
